Try downloading WordPress again, access your server via SFTP or FTP, or a file manager in your hosting account’s control panel (consult your hosting provider’s documentation for specifics on these), and delete then replace your copies of everything on the server except the wp-config.php file and the /wp-content/ directory with fresh copies from the download. This will effectively replace all of your core files without damaging your content and settings.

Some uploaders tend to be unreliable when overwriting files, so don’t forget to delete the original files before replacing them.

    Dear James,

    Thank you.

Hi. I’ve spent 2 hours trying to figure out how to ask a question. Maybe you can help me. I recently switched hosts, and ever since then my site has been down. In Tools-Site Health, I fixed everything except this: 1) The WP_AUTO_UPDATE_CORE constant is defined and enabled. AND 2) WordPress security and maintenance releases are blocked by define( ‘WP_AUTO_UPDATE_CORE’, false );.

I also forced https from my host, but Tools-Site Health says that only parts of the site are using https.

Can anyone please tell me how to fix especially the two WP auto update things? The https thing would be nice, too, but at this point I’ll take anything.

    All the best,
    Deena
