weather plugin fix
-
greetings everybody, new user here. while surfing around a few blog sites on the net tonight, i saw a neat plugin that displays the weather right on your blog. it was love at first site (nyuk nyuk nyuk). so, i went to: http://www.sonicpling.net/ and downloaded the plugin. took me a while to install (php fatal errors), but eventually i got it. unfortunately, when i looked at it (view site) for the first time, i was horrified to find an ugly black box around and behind the image. i had stumbled upon an example of ie5.5+’s horrible “we-dont-care-about-web-standards” attitude – the dreaded png alpha tranparency. so i searched in google, and eventually came up with this solution here: http://homepage.ntlworld.com/bobosola/index.htm
unfortunately, the author has no idea that the weather plugin for wordpress exists. so, i had to hack a few wordpress and weather php files. the fix is as follows:
follow the directions on this page, taking whichever path you like:
http://homepage.ntlworld.com/bobosola/pnghowto.htm
then, edit line 189 in weather.php from this:
... title='".$wxInfo['CLOUDS']."' />";
to this:
... title='".$wxInfo['CLOUDS']."' height='80' width='80'/>";
hopefully, for those of you that have or will have the weather plugin, this will work. if not, be sure to reply, and i will try to work it out. i apologize for any spelling mistakes. and yes, i realize the .js file could be external (do this if you like, it talks about it on the site i got it from). oh yes, my site (not a shameless plug, its to give you a working example [nobrainer: view in ie5.5+] of this fix in action. yea. thats it): http://matthewr85.freeserverhost.net/
