• So I have this weird problem.

When I try to edit a page, the visual editing toolbar doesn’t seem to exist at all. It says that I’m using the visual editor to edit, but there is no toolbar above the text box. Also, the text that I type comes out in white color, and there’s no blinking cursor. The only way left to edit pages is html. I’d very much like the visual option back 🙂 so it’d be great if someone could help!

Here’s a list of things that I’ve already tried (and none of them worked):

    1. I tried switching browsers (I use Google Chrome and Internet Explorer)
    2. I tried creating another account. I also tried editing pages from different levels of administration– admin, editor, contributor, author, etc.
    3. I went on several different computers.
    4. I checked every single plugin (and widget) by deactivating plugin A and then trying to use the visual editor on a page. When there was no change, I reactivated plugin A and moved on to plugin B.
    5. I tried changing the theme.
    6. I made sure that on my admin profile page, the “disable visual editor” checkbox was not checked.
    7. I think this problem exists only on my website’s server. I went on another WordPress blog that I run, and the visual editor there was working fine.

Does anyone know how to solve this? Or does anyone have a similar problem? I really hope there is some other way besides reinstalling WordPress and starting from scratch.

    Thanks!

  • Hi, I develop a plugin for the editor, and I know it VERY well.

When your editor goes white, and there is no icons or buttons, but you can see the HTML tab, and all your text is white…. it means that there is a javascript conflict and the editor is not loading properly.

This can come from a variety of reasons… but I would bet it’s one of your plugins. Sometimes, after deactivating a plugin, you must manually refresh your browser to see the changes… especially when using the content editor (because it likes to cache everything).

    So, here are the steps.

    1. Deactivate ALL of your plugins (simultaneously).
    2. Manually empty your web browsers cache.
    3. Now go back and see if the content editor loads properly.

Thanks for the help, but it’s still not working.

Well, you did say that there could be a variety of reasons– anything else I could try? <:)

Hmmm… that should have fixed it. Honestly, the only other culprit could be your theme… or the WP installation itself.

You might want to try and re-install WP via the dashboard.

If nothing else works… use my contact form to send me a message and I’ll take a look (if you like). If you do, please include the admin login url… as well as an admin level username and password. You can send the info securely here:
