• I have a question about variable products and SKUs.

The site contains two single products that are the same, but different sizes. The client would like to merge them into one variable product.

The variable product has its own SKU. I would like to assign unique SKUs to the two variables within the variable product, but I can’t give them the same SKU as the two single products already in use. The client would prefer to keep the SKUs already in use.

I assume I can change the SKUs of the two single products and re-assign their former SKUs to the variations of the variable product, but I am wondering what effect that will have on previous sales records and reporting.

You can unset the SKUs on the old products first. As for WC, I don’t think it does any reporting or linking via SKU, it’s all done through product ID, so it shouldn’t break anything.
