I am building a shop with different size prints. I have the main image itself as a product image and was trying to use the variations to reflect the relative size on the wall with each print size. If I add a secondary image in the gallery with my theme it then adds those into a flex slider.

My problem is the image variation always replaces the main image. For example I have a picture of a cat set as the main product image and cat on the wall for 11×14 variation, when I click on the 11×14 button the image is replaced with the variable image of the small cat print on a wall. I am hoping to figure a way to instead make it append it rather than replace.

I am not sure what functions to look at or anything at the moment so any direction might help. I am hoping to avoid a plugin if possible and hoping to just add a new method that appends or replacing the gallery image maybe an option too. Hopefully it is clear what I am asking..

    Hi there 👋

My problem is the image variation always replaces the main image.

The image variations swapping is the intended behavior and at the moment, there’s no default option for that in WooCommerce, and setting that as the default would require quite a bit of additional coding. Please kindly note that this requires some custom coding – which goes beyond the scope of support we are able to provide in this forum.

Just so you know this is a fairly complex development topic. However, I’m going to leave it open for a bit to see if anyone is able to chime in to help you out.

I can also recommend the WooCommerce Developer Resources Portal for resources on developing for WooCommerce.

You can also visit the WooCommerce Facebook group or the #developers channel of the WooCommerce Community Slack. We’re lucky to have a great community of open-source developers for WooCommerce, and many of our developers hang out there, as well.`

If you do require more help with the actual coding, we’d recommend you hire a developer who can take a look at this, quote you for their services, and help you add this feature to your site. We’d recommend getting in touch with a web developer or one of the customization experts listed at https://woocommerce.com/customizations/.

    Cheers!
