I figured out how to make my front page look like the one shown in the screenshot when previewing this theme, using image posts. When on my front page I can hover over the picture and click on the picture, which brings me to a separate page for my post.

However the “posts” link on my main menu in the left sidebar doesn’t take me to my posts when I click it anymore. Switching from a image post from a standard post severs the link somehow. When I click on posts in my menu it takes me to a page stating “Nothing found. Ready to publish your post? Start here.” How do I fix this?

Currently I have a static front page setup with a dedicated home page, then a posts page that will automatically publish my posts in chronological order. I followed these instructions here.

Did you make a custom menu for your site? If not, you will need to do that, then drag your new home and blog items onto that menu, plus any other links.

Ah….I just remembered something. I have it coded so that the “image” posts do not show on the blog because of the type of image and post it generates. Are you planning on having any additional posts in your blog that are not going to be the image post format?

I guess what exactly is the difference between image and standard posts? I would like the “posts” link on the left sidebar to take users to a blog-like styled page with all my posts categorized in descending chronological order. However I also like the feature that users can click on the picture on the front page and it’ll take them directly to a separate page showing the blog post that the featured image was used for.

As far as having additional posts that aren’t going to be image posts I’m not sure. Obviously I want the “posts” link on the front page to work and bring users to all my blog posts, if I can only do that by setting the posts as standard, I guess I’ll have to do that. But that won’t help in having the front page look like the front page in the theme preview screenshot.

Right now on my site I’ve uploaded the same post twice, once as an image post and once as a standard post. But is this the only workaround?

And what is defined as a “custom menu?” I set up my site as mentioned in the link I provided, with a static front page and a blog posts page. I’ve since added a gallery, about me, and contact pages that I’ve added to the primary menu on the left hand side.

Tell you what…you gave me a good idea. I’m about to do a quick update to my theme and one theme option I can add is the choice to include image posts in the blog in addition to the tiled front page template.

I’m guessing you would like that option to still have the image posts show up as a titled layout for the front page but the blog would display those posts as normal blog-like style?

Regarding menus…by default (which also depends on the theme), but generally by default when no menu is created by the user, a basic “page” only menu is generated. This is a very limited menu, so to give the site owner more control, it’s recommended to create a custom menu.

Yes I did set up my menu using that tutorial. So yes, I guess I do have a custom menu.

And yes, I think we’re talking about the same thing regarding the image posts. All I want is to post my blog posts with a featured image once. I want the featured image to be displayed on my front page in the tiled layout shown in the theme preview screenshot. I like how you can click this image and it brings users to a separate page with the blog post. But I also want the “posts” link on my primary menu to work, bringing users to all my blog posts listed in descending chronological order.

Thank you so much for the help by the way!

I’m just working on an update that will have a setting to show or hide image post formats from the blog. By default, it will be set to “no” but giving the person the choice to show them also in the blog. Then your blog menu item (link) will show your posts. You will also still be able to use the front page as your tiled “image” style.

I just uploaded the updated version 1.1.10 of Morphology Lite which adds two new settings to the Blog Options customizer panel. One to show or hide the image posts from the main blog and the other is to show or hide the image posts from the archive pages like Categories, Tags, etc. Basically you have the option to show the image posts on their own layouts, or combination of both the image post templates and/or standard blog pages too.

Forgot to mention I also updated the tutorial that introduces the Image Post format, which now includes the two newly added settings:

Downloaded the new version and still no luck unfortunately after selecting the new options. If I change my blog post from standard to image the “posts” link in my primary menu won’t take you to all my blog posts, it still shows up as “Nothing found. Ready to publish your first post? Get started here.”

Within settings in the WordPress dashboard, under reading, I’ve selected to have a static front page with the front page titled “home” then my blog page is titled “posts.” Anytime I publish a post it will automatically be published to this page, following a chronological order. I then followed the instructions in setting up a custom primary menu and added these two pages to it.

The one post I’ve published includes a title, text, and a featured image. When I select a standard format the link “postings” on my primary menu works as intended, but obviously the tiled layout on my front page doesn’t appear. When I choose an image format for the post, the tiled layout appears on my front page, along with the link to the single post’s page. But when you click “postings” from the primary menu it doesn’t seem to find any posts.

Could there possibly be a setting I’m just overlooking that I need to switch? Or can a post’s page only have standard posts on it, not image posts?

Ok….apparently I lied. Just went back to check out my site, and the new updates/options appear to be working just fine now! It just took a few minutes for them to actually take effect.

    Thank you so, SO much!!

You are very welcome and it’s good to hear it’s working for you…I had to be careful how I added those two settings because of the shear number of people using this theme, but it sounds like everything is OK now for you and with further testing I did before uploading.

    Cheers!
    Andre
