The page linked to above (http://paisleyhome.net/printable-library/) does not have a document gallery. When you edit that page, does it show that one is present?
In any event, the gallery not being present on that page explains why no thumbnails are being generated.

Although the dg is there, it adds the fusion builder code from avada even when editing in default editor. Thanks for your help!

Unfortunately, I’m going to have to say this is an issue with your theme that they need to address. I’m not sure what a fusion_builder_container is supposed to do, but it is preventing the dg shortcode from rendering. There is no output from the dg shortcode, so it is not even getting to the point of trying to create thumbnails.
Does Avada claim that shortcodes should function inside of their fusion_builder_container?

I’ve asked in the avada community and it is functioning correctly within the theme, but for some reason on my site, the page isn’t pulling the code. What would cause it not to be rendered on the page at all? In the admin settings, no thumbnails are being created. I’ve deactivated any other pdf plugins that may conflict. Any other thoughts?

I’m sorry you’re having so many issues getting your site up and running 🙁
Given the symptoms I’m seeing on that page, I believe the shortcode is not being executed at all. It doesn’t looks like thumbnail generation is relevant since it’s not even getting to a point where it could try to generate any.
The next question would be, if you put some other shortcode in place of [dg], does that work? This should be a non-WP core shortcode (in other words, a shortcode added by a third party plugin).

Well, after HOURS of working on this…I was pretty sure it was a plugin conflict. Sure enough WP Super Cache was causing it not to render correctly. I’m not experienced enough to recognize that it was a caching issue….working beautifully now. Thanks for your time and help!
