In a technical SEO audit, I found that a majority of my pages are linking to a redirect. I found the source of the problem: I have a plugin, “Feast” for food bloggers. That plugin lets me share other recipes & pages in a nice grid format, as you can see at the bottom of this page: https://askthefoodgeek.com/how-to-make-apple-butter/#recipes-resources

The problem is that an occasional post in that addon will link to a URL without the “/” at the end, as you can see for the Cinnamon Apple Sauce recipe. All of the other recipes are fine. I have tried republishing both the apple butter and apple sauce recipe pages to see if that triggered an updated URL (it did not). I have tried a few other things that also had no effect.

The addon lets me enter wordpress post IDs to select the recipes that I want to feature. I do not input URLs or any other parameter.

I reached out to the plugin maker who said, “We output the permalink set by WordPress and don’t do any sort of modification to the URL that WordPress provides. There must be some sort of missing configuration or setting in your WordPress config.”

It makes sense that the plugin is passing through the URL and not modifying it. But what doesn’t make sense to me is that I have a missing/wrong configuration since this doesn’t happen for every post. (As you can see on the apple butter page, only one of the recipes in the grid has the wrong URL).

I’m happy to do my own troubleshooting, but I’m at a loss of ideas or what else to look at or test. Any help would be appreciated.

I finally figured it out – only because I posted here for help. Murhpy’s law, you know how it goes.

I have another addon that lets me enter a URL on the image files. I enter the URL on some of them for use when featured for this other addon. It turns out, the URL on that image file was overriding the URL for the Feast plugin if it used the same featured image.
