Hi,
I would like to change my permalink structure (travel-diary) into a category while maintaining the same URL and all links, likes and comments. How best to do it?

Current permalink is: /travel-diary/%category%/%postname%/

Example page: http://www.seetheworldinmyeyes.com/travel-diary/southeast-asia/indonesia/from-dream-beach-to-nusa-ceningan

If I understand correctly, you want to make “travel-diary” into a category instead of a static URL attribute. By doing so, your URL would change from “http://example.com/travel-diary/sample-category/sample-post” to “http://example.com/travel-diary/sample-post”

Am I understanding correctly?

Thank you for your reply! I actually did some experimenting and it seems to work. But yes, I tried to do what you mention above, but while maintaining the URL. I just did this now while creating a new main category, making all others sub-categories to the new main and at the same time removing the part from the permalink structure. The result really appears to be the same URL. Great, the problem seems to be solved… 🙂
