• I try to be clearer since nobody asnwered me on previous post.

I tried to upgrade my 2.0.3 to 2.0.4 by overwriting the files as mentioned on download page using smartFTP. I didn’t upload the wp-content since I’m using a customized template. At first, I didn’t see that the program erased the old wp-content folder.
When I tried to loggin to the admin, I had a error message, saying something like, there’s no wp-config file. so I upload a wp-config file with all my infos. Since I get a blank page when I try to loggin. the template went back to the default one and I can’t change it since I can’t login.
Anybody here can help me out?

I changed password in mysql thinking it may help…… Now when I try to login, I get the blog site instead of the admin or the blank page…….. I hope someone will help me out cause the only think I can do now is erasing the site and start over again…………………….

And is there a problem with erasing and starting over? Do you have content in the database you don’t want to lose or is this a fresh installation? If there’s content in the database, just backup the database (use phpMyAdmin). If there’s not (or there’s not much and it’s not the end of the world to lose it), just start over again. It sounds like there are a few things messed up. Changing passwords in the middle of trying to get things set up isn’t usually a good idea.

Do you think you can get away with a fresh installation here or is it imperative that you update your old installation?

i changed my PW because it didn’t work. i thought it might help cause i was getting an error page while trying to login. it got worth after i changed the password as i was getting the blog index page instead of the login page.
i erased everything and started again. by chance i’m updating my blogs with qumana and i have all my posts locally. otherwise i’d have lost everything.
i won’t updade my other blogs as long as i won’t get a better upgrade. it’s too much of a mess. wordpress is a great script, but the upgrade process isn’t good .
i don’t understand why they give wrong indication to upgrade the script . i did what they indicated and that’s how i got in that mess .

Well, since you’ve backed up your database, why not start from scratch? Have you a local copy of your theme? If so, download a brand new version of 2.0.4, add your theme to the wp-content folder, then upload the whole lot to your server.

So when you changed your password in MySQL, did you remember to MD5 hash it?
