Upgradeing

i am very new at this and this is going to be my first time upgrading seeing that my bestfriend and the the best admin has gone to be in paradise and i just want to make sure i get this right

1.i back up the database from my godaddy account

2.take off all plug-ins

download wordpress
unzip it
Go to my FTP(FILEZILLA)
find my folder WordPress
and overwrite everything

and keep the config folder from the old install and do
have to do a import of data for comments and things like that.

please help me cause i would not want to ruin anything that we as a team help built.
