Upgrade to 2.7 Issues

Hello! I am working on upgrading my WP 2.2.2 to WP 2.7 (better late than never). I backed up all my files, then I backed up my database. I assumed I would probably need to upgrade to 2.3, then 2.4 etc., all the way up to 2.7, but I figured with all my files and database backed up, it wouldn’t hurt to try to upgrade directly to 2.7. Also, instead of trying to upgrade my K2 theme as I went, I figured I would switch back to the default theme, upgrade with that, then later download the most recent version of K2 and switch back to K2 at that time.

I followed the upgrade instructions for 2.7, but when I got to the end of the process, I got an install message rather than the upgrade message. I went ahead and installed, but just ended up with a blog with no posts or comments. I tried restoring my database at that time, but to no avail. So, I deleted the new files, uploaded my backup files, dropped the new database tables, and restored the old database.

Unfortunately, my FTP client had not been set on ASCII when I downloaded my backup files, so when I tried to upload them, I got loads of syntax error messages. Whooami helped me through the process of uploading a fresh set of 2.2.2 files, and then stepping through the various upgrades to 2.7.

Using the default theme, I successfully upgraded from 2.2.2 to 2.3.3 to 2.6.3. Oh, how I wish I had stopped and done a fresh backup when I had a fully functioning blog on 2.6.3. But the other two steps had gone so smoothly, and I still had my original backup from 2.2.2, so I figured I was okay. I went the next step of upgrading to 2.7. I got to the very end of the process, and once again I got an install message rather than the upgrade message.

After many attempts to fix it, I went ahead and deleted the 2.7 files, and re-uploaded the 2.6.3 files, knowing that the most recent upgrade of my database had worked with 2.6.3. Except it didn’t. I still could only get the install page, no upgrade page.

Finally, I deleted my 2.6.3 files, re-uploaded the 2.2.2 files, and restored the original database that I had backed up when I started the process last night. I am still only getting an install message at the end of the process.

I have worked 15 hours straight on this without even sleeping (8pm last night to 12 noon right now), and I seem to be further behind than when I started. My blog has over a thousand posts and several thousand comments. I have a backup of the database, but I cannot seem to get it to work with any version of WP. Is there anyway I can get my blog back up and running and upgraded to 2.7?

Any help would be greatly appreciated.
