I’m trying to upgrade, but I’m having trouble connecting to my existing database. I’ve been doing all that it’s been prompting me to do (I get this page that says: Can’t select database

We were able to connect to the database server (which means your username and password is okay) but not able to select the jesslin_wrdp2 database.

    * Are you sure it exists?
    * On some systems the name of your database is prefixed with your username, so it would be like username_wordpress. Could that be the problem?) but I’ve tried all that and it still hasn’t changed anything. I’m really not that savvy when it comes to MySQL / PHPAdmin – frankly it all scares me.

    Any help?

to clarify further….. I was going for a new blog, from an existing database, and I tried the new ‘table_prefix’ but still nothing. (http://wordpress.org/support/topic.php?id=28708)

” I was going for a new blog, from an existing database”
Not sure what you mean ….

well, I guess technically it isn’t a new blog then if it’s using an existing database… just an upgrade

I’m trying to work out what happened to get you stuck.
All I can think is that you deleted the wp-config.php file ?
Did you then recreate it ?

my wp-config.php file is most definitely there.

You are getting a message that you can connect, but not to database ?

This can only be caused by you
    – not having done the R.I.B (which you say you have)
    – getting the database name wrong.

I can’t see how else this is happening …..the database does exist ? The config.php has precisely the correct details ? (You did not say if this was a recreated one or the original).

its an edited version. from Step 3 from this page http://codex.wordpress.org/Installing_WordPress#Detailed_Instructions
I followed those directions. I’m pretty sure that it has the right details in it seeing as this is the only MySQL database I’m running. I tried variants of the database name, with and without the username prefix but I kept getting the same message that I posted above.
