• I’ve been working with WP for several months, and thought I had a grip on things until I tried upgrading a site which I had recently redesigned with frames.
I’ve upgraded my install before, but somehow, this time, all of my previous formatting and styling are completely broken.
    The address is : http://www.bend-music.com

I’ve tried re-installing, downgrading and installing an older backup (wp-content), upgrading both manually and by ‘automatic upgrade’, and out of all my many backups to date, not one even restores the header properly.

My hope is that someone with more experience may be able to look at this, and see the main problem, or be able to offer some direction.
It seems so dire that I have to take a short break before I flip!!

    Thank you for any help.

    Thank you for responding, samboll.
That was my major misstep I think : I tried to upgrade both a wordpress install in a subdirectory (wp/) and the install at http://www.bend-music.com. This is a very humbling experience, since I had read so much I thought I knew what I was doing…

Now, my main concern is the install at the main site (bend-music.com): I have tried and failed (a lot) to restore the site to where it was before upgrading; I have many backups of the site, as well as backups of the db.
No matter which version of wordpress I install, every time i reload wp-content it breaks (even wp-content from several older backups of the site).

Do I need to start from scratch? Or maybe there’s something obvious I’m missing?

well at the least you need all of the files in the root

Ok, that makes sense. Before I dive in and un-install everything, is there anything other than wp-content from a backup that’s essential to restoring the styling and formatting?
Thank you again for any feedback you can share.

nope that is where the themes and style sheets are so that’s cool

Thank you for that. I’ve reinstalled the WP package, and have gone through uploading the ‘contents’ of each wp-content folder, and the site, such as it is, is here : http://www.bend-music.com . The header is still missing, as is most of the formatting. (I have backups from Jan. 20 on, so I’m mystified why none showing up correctly…)

Is there another directory that I’m missing, perhaps? Or, something particular from wp-includes or wp-admin?
