Updating Tags

    I find the Import and Export facility in WooCommerce very useful for performing batch updates to the data. I export the data, make the changes in the CSV file (using Excel) and then re-import it (just the fields that have been changed).

    I have one issue though that I wonder if anybody can help me with.

    I often use the Tags field to assign a tag to the updated data. That tag can easily be changed or added to in subsequent imports.

    However, I have not worked out how to remove a tag in the Import. If you leave the Tag field empty, I thought it would have cleared the tags in the data, but it doesn’t, it just leaves them as they were.

    Can anybody offer me any advice on this.

    Hello,

    If you leave the Tag field empty, I thought it would have cleared the tags in the data, but it doesn’t, it just leaves them as they were.

    I just tried on my test site, and leaving the tag field empty did clear all existing tags. Just in case, did you check “Update existing products” when you imported the CSV?

    Thanks for the response. Yes, I did check Update existing products. It was a while ago that I tried this and so I just assumed leaving the tag field blank was not the way to do it. I’ll try it again now and see if it works.

    I suppose there was a chance I’d left a space in the tag field in the import field, but I didn’t think I had.

    Yes, I’m pleased to say you are correct. I don’t know why it didn’t work for me when I tried it previously. It was a few versions of WooCommerce ago and so it may have been something that was fixed.

    Thanks for making me check again. At least I can easily clear unwanted tags now 🙂
