• Finally got around to doing updates to wordpress, themes and so on – after updating, pages displayed differently with some content missing. The menu was missing although I managed to fix that and YES, I’m a novice when it comes to this stuff. At first, the slideshow gallery and calendar didn’t work and now they’ve disappeared all together along with any pages, files, folders and images associated with them. The dashboard has also changed and no longer gives me the ability to back up the website.

Is there any way I can roll back to the previous version of wordpress or back to a point where everything at least worked? I do have a saved full back up of the site in a zip file from just before I did the updates last night if that helps. At the moment, I can’t see any way to re-install or fix that as the back up options no longer exist in the dashboard menu. Once again, I am a novice.

    Website is at http://bmmclub.com

    Thanks, Danny.

  • From what it sounds like in your first bit of an explination

“Finally got around to doing updates to wordpress, themes and so on – after updating, pages displayed differently with some content missing.” it sounds like you never properly set up a child theme. If you started to customize a theme and then went and updated it all of your changes are now lost and you’re back to square one.

Thanks for your reply Evan. I didn’t set up the website in the first place but that’s irrelevant. The theme was working fine at the time I did the full site back up and have only tried to customize it after the updates were done, in an effort to repair what was missing or wrong.

I assumed that the “saved” version I have of the website contains all of the correct settings for the site as it was working fine at the time, much like doing a “restore” on your computer to an earlier time to resolve issues. I’m sure I could be completely wrong.

It’s the missing menu items off the Dashboard that is making this the hardest to resolve as I can no longer access the back ups directly from there. Maybe it was luck, I did send a copy of the complete back up to another server so I have full access to it as a zip file that way. I just don’t know what to do with it.

    Regards, Danny.
