• Please be kind. Obviously I’ve already learned by this mistake.

I haven’t updated in a while and was moving quickly through the options. WordPress had a way to update all my plug ins at once. I did it, then intended to go back and update WordPress itself. It won’t let me. Here’s the error code I’m getting (I get it when I go to the site too, not just the admin side)

Parse error: syntax error, unexpected T_ARRAY, expecting ‘&’ or T_VARIABLE or T_CONST in /home/content/m/i/s/missmm/html/garbagefactor/wp-content/plugins/wp-security-scan/libs/functions.php on line 481

I’m able to get into Admin by back tabbing, but any action I try gets me the above code.

I’m not a code writer, just a regular ol’ broad trying to do a blog for herself on her own domain.

    Help is appreciated…REALLY appreciated.

    Marian

  • From your FTP, access the functions.php file in your wp-security scan plugin directory. Check out line 481 – if it’s the last line in the file, check to make sure it ends with ?> and that there aren’t any spaces following.

You can deactivate the plugin wp-security-scan using ftp rename the plugin to get your website back

    Hi Tommy,

When I tried to access the file to edit, I got this:

“The file could not be loaded. Closing editor.”

I also tried the next suggestion to rename wp-security, but I’m still getting the same error code.

    govpatel,

I tried renaming and that didn’t work. I’m still getting the same error code. Any other ideas?

Can WP-Security Scan be deleted from my FTP manager and then re-added once I’ve got things functioning again?

You can delete it, won’t hurt anything.

Trying delete. I think it takes a bit to register, so will test again in an hour.

Thanks so much for all your help. I’ll post again to close the loop or ask for more help (hopefully the former).

I deleted the file, waited overnight in case GoDaddy takes forever to recognize my change, and this morning I have the exact same error.

    Any more help???

You may be in cache press Ctrl+F5 have you tried to refresh as if you deleted the plugin then you should not get the same error

    Govpatel,

Yes, I’ve tried reloading the website by refreshing. Just used Ctrl+F5 as you suggested and got the same.

Is there any other place the file instructions might be stored that could be confusing the site?

using ftp recheck if you still have folder named wp-security-scan

Found it! There were “2” wp-security-scan folders! One in the main folder and another under the website name. Once I deleted it everything came back.

Tommy & Govpatel…thank you both soooo much for your help. I don’t know why you guys help amateurs like me, but I sure do appreciate it.
