• I just have a quick question. I haven’t upgraded to 3.8 yet because it seems like a major change and I want to make sure everything works first. However, I am moving to a new host, so when I do the new install, it will be 3.8. I am hoping to have the site run on the old host for a period while I do some much needed maintenance on the new one. Therefore, I still want to avoid creating any major problems by updating a live site (especially right before Christmas). So my question is, If I download my database from the older version of WP and import it into the new version of WP will I have problems? In other words, should I update to 3.8 before I export my database?

  • Here’s what I would do, if I understand your situation correctly, I’d treat the new host as a test server until I’m ready to push the upgrade on the new server. Install 3.7 on the new server, set it up like your existing site, make sure it’s stable, upgrade to WP and plugins, do whatever maintenance you have, test, then point your domain to the new server.
