Unique Post Format by Category

Is there a way, either through plugin or hack, to have a particular category have it’s own template when the post is shown on the main page.

I am aware of the “Post Templates by Category” plugin, but the only ways I can make it work is when viewing a single post or a category page, and I want to change the template for that category no matter how the post is viewed.

PS. In case it matters, all I want is for posts in a single category to automatically lead with a particular graphic and a bit of text.
