Hello Everyone – I am attempting to uninstall wordpress to install a clean copy. I started to create a webpage, but decided to go with another theme, and the person doing the video that I am following has suggested that I install a clean copy of WP. So I followed some instructions here and have installed a plugin called WP Data Access to do this. Now, I have it installed, but when I try to run the plugin to clean stuff, I click the uninstall tab and select “reset uninstall settings to defaults” and check the “delete plugin” box. But there is no “go” button. It looks like it didn’t do anything. I’m saying this because when I open my site/dashboard, some of the plugins that I loaded (from my first site building attempt) are still listed in the dashboard. So could anyone explain what I should be doing to remove the original wordpress that I installed ? Is it some kind of cache issue ? Am I doing this properly ? Should I just manually deactivate whatever plugins I originally loaded ? Or do they matter ? Would this be something that Bluehost could do for me ? thanks in advance – Terry

    Hi Terry,

Very sorry, but this looks like a misunderstandig. WP Data Access is a database plugin. You cannot use it to reinstall or uninstall WordPress. The uninstall option in plugin settings is meant to define what should happen if WP Data Access is uninstalled. It has nothing to do with uninstalling WordPress.

Getting to your issue, I don’t think you need to uninstall anything if you switch to another theme. I do this all the time without ever uninstalling or reinstalling. Some themes will use other features and settings than others, so you might need to rearrange some content. But you probably want to reuse most of your content, I guess?

Maybe just switch your theme and see what happens?

    Hope this helps,
    Peter

Hello everyone: I am attempting to create a website, but in the process I have deleted some stuff. Now, I am following a how-to video and some of the things he’s doing, I can’t duplicate. I think I deleted some stuff while trying to get my site back to what it was when I started.

I don’t know for sure, but I’m thinking that if I could get things back to where they were when I first loaded WordPress, it would be like starting from scratch. I could then follow along on this video, and get a site happening. Am I dreaming, or can I bring things back to where they were when I first installed WordPress ?

Is this something that I can do ? If anyone can advise, I would really appreciate it. Thanks in advance, Terry

    Hi Terry,

If I read your messages correctly, you are using bluehost? I have no experience with bluehost specifically, but most hosting providers allow you to reinstall your web server. Worst case, you can completely delete your web server and create a new one. Or maybe just ask them for support?

    Hope this helps,
    Peter
