twenty thirteen – child theme doesn't work

hi

i’m quite a newbie to wordpress. i have understood it is important to work with child themes, so i have set up one for my site. however, at every update my theme gets messed up nonetheless, the changes i did to the style sheet are not visible any more and comment fields are added again although i have just deleted them at the last update… what could i be doing wrong?
