Basic troubleshooting:
Disable all custom themes and plugins.
Then carefully re-enable your custom theme. If everything works, great, move on to the next step. If not, the problem is your theme and you should contact the theme developer to see if there’s an update or if there are any fixes.
If the theme works, move on to plugins. Slowly re-enable plugins one by one and test to see if everything works. If you notice the issue after re-enabling a plugin, make note of the last enabled plugin and contact the plugin developer with your findings.

I have the Multipress theme. Should I talk to them first and see if they have any issues with 3.8.1 or I just go ahead and install 3.8.1 and then disable Multipress and see whats going on with it. According to all my plugins, they say they are compatible with 3.8.1 but it seems like one or two may have a conflict right? I have this multipress theme for over 2 years and never had any issues with wordpress updates. They do not have any updates for the theme.

Well with the troubleshooting we are trying to identify where the problem is exactly – it could be an issue with the theme, it could be an issue with a plugin (or a conflict between two or more plugins) or it could be a genuine issue with your server. Maybe it’s misconfigured or perhaps your particular configuration is not supported by 3.8.1 – kind of unlikely but we need to run through these steps to figure out where the issue might be.
