I’m still having the same issue.
Site: http://dezdan.com
Theme: 2011 Child
WP 3.8
Same as before, when I first log into my WP dashboard I see the notification that updates are available. However, when I go to the updates page or the plugins page no updates are shown and then the notification disappears. Even if I refresh the update page nothing is shown. After about 2 or 3 weeks of this, the updates will finally appear.
Here is another screen shot example: http://www.dezdan.com/WPFalseUpdates2.jpg
I have the same problem with 3.8.1 I think they might be the autoupdate feature, a bad plugin or some cache error.
Could it be “something else” using the update function to call home, maybe a hiding plugin/exploit? Is this possible?
I have the same problem, although mine is only 1, and I’ve noticed that you went from 3 to only 2 false/ghost updates. I have a hunch that it might be a plugin that I created myself and was fooling around with but even though I completely deleted it, something might have stuck somewhere and is giving a false positive? [Still, thinking about that, it doesn’t make any sense since that “plugin” I made would have never had any updates to speak of…hmmm…]
I’m in the queue too.
Is there any solution , please?

Guys? Since this topic was posted WordPress has changed version-wise and your problem may have similar symptoms but probably different causes (unless you are all on the same server and installation).
Per the forum welcome please post your own topic.

It really is the best way to get your problem the attention it deserves.
The problem has followed me even with multiple version changes of WP. The problem started more than a year ago, a while before I posted about it. The only changes in the problem are how many updates are needed.
I’m thinking it has to be a plugin. Those having the same problem, post up your list of plugins and we’ll see if we share a common one or two.

Hi guys,
I’ve made many new installations and I found out that all is good until I install Contact form 7.
After that I always have the false update message.
I understand TheDezdan doesn’t have this plugin, but this is the situation with me.
always have a backup of your working site. this way, you will be able to test how a single plugin may affect the whole site, as well.
Kit Chambers, my point was about the possible reason all of us to have a constant update notice.
In my case this is Contact form 7.
BTW I didn’t loose any data, but thank you for the advice π
I ran into this issue when I manually updated a plugin that was due for an update, specifically Admin Columns Pro. I had to do this due to the way ACP updates and lack of full support for multisite so I just copied the new version of the plugin to the server rather than having to auto-upgrade. From that point on I had a 1 in my Update Notifications and next to Plugins, but visiting either page showed no updates.
I disabled and re-enabled Admin Columns Pro and the notification disappeared.
EDIT: nevermind, it re-appeared shortly after.
