Thumbnails missing
-
Hi,
I installed “Recent Posts Widget With Thumbnails” and configured the Widget to show Featured image. If Featured image isn’t available, i set it to show the first image in the post. However, no thumbnails are displayed.
I have Jetpack’s Photon enabled .. may be it’s causing the problem?
Here is a URL if someone wants to go through the html source.
Thanks.

What is the default thumbnail size in backend’s “Settings” > “Media”? It seems both thumbnail width and height are set to 0. If yes please enter the desired values.
In the Widget I set 50×50. But in Settings > Media it’s set to 0.
In the Widget it says:
“If you use a specified size the following sizes will be taken, otherwise they will be ignored and the selected dimension as stored in Settings › Media will be used“
I thought the setting in the Widget overrides the values in “Settings > Media”.
Just now I tried changing it to 50×50 in Settings > Media, but it’s still the same.
Your assumption is right. But something somewhere fails somehow so the widget uses the media thumbnail settings as fallback.
Please save the widget settings again. Hope that helps.
It’s 50×50 in both locations already. I reset it and saved the Widget again, but still no thumbview. May be I should disable Photon for a while, to test?
I copied the Widget code, replaced the Photon links with my website’s actual link (to image files) and added to one of my pages.
(The “Recent Posts” section at the top one uses images from Photon, and the 2nd “Recent Posts” section at the bottom, uses images from my server.)
Still no thumbnails.
I do not think that Photon is a reason. Please set in Settings > Media the thumbnail sizes to values greater than 0, e.g. 50×50 and save the widget settings again (to rewrite the widget’s CSS file with the new thumbnail default values).
Read that post in the support forum to see that setting the thumbnail size to 0 x 0 caused a problem and after setting another size the problem disappeared. Maybe that could be the reason in your case.
I tried 55×55, 75×75 and 150×150 and didn’t work out. I usually upload images using my FTP client instead of Upload Media (in WP)… so that the miniature images would be created automatically.
Would that be causing the problem?
Maybe. Uploading via FTP is unusual in WP. The plugin assumes the usual way of using WP, e.g. inserting images via the media library.
Note: After you have changed the thumbnail size in the media settings you have to save the widget again to get the new size in the widget’s CSS file.
Will try that Martin.
Thanks for your time. Appreciated!Found it! Siteground dynamic caching module or the caching options in Sucuri WAF is causing the problem. Although new comments in the page are updated, the module doesn’t seem to update Widgets. It now works. Sorry for the trouble.
Thanks for the Wonderful plugin.
Glad to hear that. I would be also glad about your review.
Sure. I love it. I’ll leave a review in a couple of days.
G’day.
