• Hi
Trying to learn wordpress. Looking to build a new web site for my Graphic Design business. Not much emphasis on blogging. More on “Portfolio, Testimonials, About Us, Contact Us, Client Section, etc)What I am wondering, is 2 things…

    1) Can I take a few different themes that I like different parts of and combine them? i.e. one theme I like has a great header, one has a great portfolio, one has great nav, etc. None of the existing themes out there would obviously have exactly everyhting I need, so I want to customize without hiring someone to build a custom site. which leads to my next question.

    2) When people make theme and put them out there, do most of them not allow you to customize? i.e. some say “3 color options”. Is this a “locked” thing? Why can’t I make the theme any color I want? I downloaded one called “Sharpfolio” I can’t seem to put my logo in the header b/c it’s set up for text only. You get the interface that lets you change the font color, but it looks like if you want to do anything more than that, it blocks it. Am I missing something or are themes not able to be customized 100% unlimited?

Thanks in advance for your help!

  • you can do absolutely anything you want to any theme.

Thin is, you have to code it.

All the files that end in .php control basic layout and function

the style.css and any other .css files control colours, styling, positioning, etc….

So I understand editing the php and css, but why when I edit these things, and click “Update File”, nothing seems to change…

when you look at your site after doing edits to your css you usually have to press ctrl+f5 to refresh the page

I did that. Maybe I don’t really know php and css like I think I do. i.e. I downloaded wpBurn Blue theme. Went into style.css and changed all of the “background-color:#f2efdc” codes to my new color and nothing happened…

I guess more importantly at this point is getting an answer to my 1st question.

    Can anyone help?

    Thanks
