text area firefox

I have been trying to sort out a textarea problem without any luck at all. I encrypt text (KEYNOTES) which creates long strings which wrap fine in IE but not it Firefox. So in FF I just get a crazy infinite scroll on the top line of the textarea. IE works perfectly – filling up the textarea nicely.
