Hi, I just moved my site to a new host. Now I need to revamp it and test it before redirecting the dns.

Could I change the parmalink structure – make a few new posts and pages and only click them when testing? (otherwise I’m redirected to the old site of course, since I’m using pretty links).

  • You can go to Settings -> General in the wordpress admin and change the siteurl to the URL of your test side. This will cause any generated links to use the new host while you test it. Then when you actually move it, and re-point DNS, you can update it back to the correct url

THanks, but will that not make the backend navigation tricky – and prompt me to log in all the time?

What I’ve done is copied the site and set it upp at the new host. Next step is to change theme and plugins before I redirect the ULR:s (DNS).

Thinking that it might be easier to run the site on my local computer which operates on windows 7. Good or bad?

I dont’t understand how i reach the Settings -> General in the wordpress admin to execute this on the test site – so that the changes doesn’t show on the old and live install.

I reckon I need to go through phpmyadmin and make changes in the database tables?
