• Hi there,

I paid someone to create a WordPress website for me a little while ago.

Now that it exists, is it possible for me to grab the whole code? Is there a html file for each page that I can download (and a css file and javascript file)?

I’m asking in case I wanted to just host the website as a regular site (and not be constrained to a WordPress site) in the future.

    Thank you.

The page I need help with: [log in to see the link]

no, the site is in the database. WP code builds the pages dynamically

There are tools you can use to convert a WP website to a static one. You’ll find them via Google. But why would you want a static site? How does using WordPress “constrain” you?

    Thanks Steve.

Since the site was built for me, I have built a couple of sites from scratch, with just a text editor. I did this to learn how everything works.

I don’t really know how WordPress works yet – so I would just feel more comfortable working with the raw files at this stage.

As Steve pointed out there are tools like https://wordpress.org/plugins/simply-static/ for converting WP to html. I tried doing this only once, and I don’t remember the details, but the results were imperfect. I really think you are better off just diving in and learning WP. You will grow comfortable with it pretty quickly, and there are lots of kind, knowledgeable people here to help.
