• Hi all,

I’ve been reworking my blog. I used to use Tags as keywords but realized that wasn’t a good way to go. So, I’ve gone through all of my posts and carefully tagged each one so I have consistency.

Now, when I look at my tags in the admin area, I see hundreds of tags that are being used by 0 posts (mixed in with tags that are associated with several posts).

Is there an easy way to get rid of these extra tags? A way to sort via # of times they’re used? Going through the 150 pages of alphabetically listed tags and deleting them is very time consuming to say the least.

I tried using the excellent Simple Tags plug-in but, when I sort by “least used”, the extra tags don’t show up.

Or, do the extra tags even matter? Should I even be concerned with them at all?

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

The extra tags don’t really matter. You could remove them from the database, but essentially they’re just taking up a null entry.

Exporting your blog and reimporting it would get rid of them, but that seems like a lot of effort to go to.

I’ve mentioned this to the Simple Tags author too. I’d like to get rid of them myself…

Me too, I want to delete all tags with zero entries, they just add up a new link to be indexed on google with empty information thats why sometimes google will auto sandbox the site for link flooding. I just want to get rid of them all..
