Tag cloud options

I’m wondering if there is a way to pass optional arguments to the short code for tag clouds. I would like to have a tag cloud with a couple of options that are different than the defaults. I’ve found where I can change the defaults in the adapter.nextgen_basic_tagcloud_controller.php file, but every time I update, I have to remember to go back and change the defaults, so I would like to know if there is a way to pass arguments in the short code to be used instead of defaults.
