• I have just downloaded last wp version, unzipped, modified wp-config.php correctly (checked many times), changed folder name into “wp” and uploaded everything via ftp… But install.php file is not showing (webdejavu.com/wp/wp-admin/install.php). I had same problem with a previous installation and decided to have everything in root… but now I would like to have static pages (wp generated) separated from blog. Any suggestion?

    Thnaks.

  • One question at a time 🙂
If you cannot install it, why are you jumping to the “static pages” thing? (btw, no, they cannot be “separated” from your blog)

Ok, one by one… I still can’t install. I double checked wp-config.php and tryed to change settings but still no results.

Actually I am in this situation because I had a previous version correctly running, but I wanted to add pages with different templates and css and an horizontal nav bar… so I uploaded a home.php templ and lost access to my entire blog… Now I’am trying to reinstall everything and start from scratch.

Your WP files are not where you are looking for them. Are you sure everything is uploaded to the /wp/ folder? Check via ftp again…

No way… I have uploaded everything for 3rd time and keep receiving same error. I suppose my ftp client is fooling me or there something else. I’ll keep trying and see what happens… otherwise i’ll switch to Mambo 🙂
    Tnx anyway.

Maybe is uploaded bad ? I had same problem. I need something else then dialup 🙁

First of all, what does your host provide to manage your account? Is it cPanel, vDesk, Ensim, or Plesk? If your host provides neither of those, do they provide a one-click installer system for WordPress, such as “Fantastico”? If you answered “no” to both questions, follow these steps:

    1. Download WordPress. This will give you a folder called “wordpress” with other files and folders inside.

    2. Now, change the name of the folder from “wordpress” to “wp”.

    3. Pre-flight check: Do you have a “wp-admin” folder inside of the “wp” folder? And, is there an “install.php” file inside of the “wp-admin” folder? If there is, continue to step 4.

4a. If necessary, create a MySQL database and user.

4b. Enter the correct values into “wp-config-sample.php” and rename it to “wp-config.php”.

    5. Upload the “wp” folder (and all of its files) to your server.

    6. Run the “install.php” script.
