I am wondering if it is difficult to style widgets in weaver? – I am thinking of adding a shadow to my widgets but am unsure exactly how to write the styling. I would also like to add a background image to some if that is possible?

Check out the div classes for the widgets.php for your theme and edit those styles in your CSS… you can add a background and shadow style in there.

do you know or can you point me to any information about exactly what to write into the css to get the desired effect for the shadow and images?

You can add those styles to your CSS and modify it to your liking.
