Styling posts based on listed order

I want to style posts on a page differently depending on their order of appearance. Specifically, I want to display progressively smaller thumbnail images within posts, based on their order of being listed.

I am looking for some sort of WordPress variable that I can call as a css class to style the thumbnails differently.

Is this a feature that’s available in WP? Is there a plugin? thanks!
