Streaming issues on mobile devices
-
Using S3 bubble and Amazon S3. Used handbrake to encode a web optimized mp4. Seeking does not work well and 30 minute videos seems to stop about 13 to 18 minutes into the video. Anything I can do to fix this?

Hi ziophantus,
I would suggest using Youtubes encoders sounds crazy but its very useful.
Please watch this how to video.

Hi Sam. Thanks for the quick reply. I attempted the youtube encoding. The video was stopping around 18 min out of 30. Now it stops at about 27 min out of 30. Still not sure what the issue is. I’m using RTMP. Any additional suggestions would be much appreciated. The file size is around 50 megs with total time around 30 minutes. I have multiple mp4 files that are doing the same thing. It works fine on desktop browsers, just has issue with mobile browsers. Thanks!
Also, I’d be more than happy to pay for the Pro plan for expert support if needed. I run a streaming video course so would like to get the videos to work on ipad/iphone/android as many of my customers use these devices. Thanks so much.
I followed all the steps on https://s3bubble.com/documentation/ to try to get the videos to play on ios to no avail. I even put the big bunny video that was recommended on your site. That actually worked… Can I send you a video that I’m trying to get to work and you see if you try to encode it with handbrake and see if it works? I’m desperate.
Hi ziophantus,
If the big bunny video worked this must be a encoding issue. which mobile browser are you experiencing the issues in.

Sam
Hi ziophantus,
Also can you also send me a link to the player.
Best Regards
Sam
Having issues both android chrome and ipad/iphone safari. Can’t seek and videos will only play partway through and then stop and sometimes freezes up the browser. Using handbrake for encoding, have tried multiple settings including iphone format with web optimized enabled. Have also tried the youtube encoder.
What email can I send the username a password to so you can look at the videos? Thanks so much!
Hi Sam. Still having issues. Can I send you the username and password to look at the player? I can also send you one of the videos. Thanks!
Just wanted to follow-up. Can I send you the information?
Hi ziophantus,
Yes apologies please send the information to support@s3bubble.com and i will take a look.
Do you get the same issues with this player https://s3bubble.com/rtmp-streaming-example-s3bubble-wordpress-plugin/

Hi Sam. I’ve emailed you the information. I’m using the RTMP solution from Amazon S3. The RTMP streaming player in your example on s3bubble.com works beautifully on all devices including android / ios.
Thanks again !!
Hi Sam. Any update?
Also, I noticed that a person can do a view source and find the media link that s3bubble is using to get the media (http://media.s3bubble.com/rtmp/XXXXXXXXXX:no). Unfortunately this allows people outside of the paid subscription login to watch the videos. How can this be prevented?
Hi Ziophantus,
The only way around that is to use the WordPress plugin.
It is really hard to debug your issue as i cannot seem to recreate it everything works fine for us.
You need to have everything behind a secure payment gateway make them pay before they can view your content you could share that url but someone could also just screengrab your videos and share the key is to find the best setup for your business most people wont go to the extremes to steal content, S3Buuble make this process as hard as possible, i could just screengrab Netflix videos but i would rather pay $6 a month for less hassle and a good service just as a example.
This video may help.

Hi Sam. I am using the S3Bubble wordpress plugin. Inserting it as an iFrame (through the plugin) a user can easily go to view source and see the s3bubble url which can be easily shared. If I try inserting it as a shortcode the player controls do not work (specifically the play button and seeking through the video; the sound slider and maximize button works. The time also states 00:00)… This would solve the problem of not being able to see the URL from S3bubble; however, I need the player controls to work.
Everything is behind a payment gateway. That is what is frustrating is that a user can view source, look at the URL from S3 bubble (http://media.s3bubble.com/rtmp/XXXXXXXXXX:no) and easily share it with others. This also eats into my amazon S3 bandwidth.
As for the prior issue. You tried viewing that video using a ios or android device? That was where the seeking wasn’t working.
Hopefully we can resolve this. 🙁
OK starting from the beginning.
I’m using a payment gateway, S3Bubble, RTMP, and amazon S3.
I just tried using the “Insert Shortcode” rather than “insert iFrame.” This fixes playing the video on mobile devices. It works!!! However, now when playing on desktop browsers (using flash) the progress bar doesn’t move, the play button doesn’t work, and the time states 00:00. The video starts playing fine but can’t interact with it at all. Here’s a sample of the code:
[s3bubbleRtmpVideoDefault bucket=”xxxxxx” track=”xxxxx.mp4″ aspect=”16:9″ autoplay=”false” download=”false” cloudfront=”E2JUKUGEBxxxx” start=”false” finish=”false” /]
I also notice that now through the browser there will be the loading white circle spinning for multiple minutes before the blue cloud splash screen comes up to start the video. Is this on my web server’s end?
