Stopping comments

Hi, I’m sure I’ve missed something obvious but how do you stop people leaving comments?
I have what I thought to be no comments all turned off but I still get the odd “You have a comment in moderation” message which when checking is always spam naturally.
This is just a personal blog for myself.
