• I’m using 1.2, and have a pretty good set of anti-spam stuff in place, including Kitten’s spaminator. And I have comments automatically close after 30 (I think) days. So not much gets through. But today, I got comment spam to a very old post on which the comments are closed. I think, although I’m not totally sure, that this is the first time this has happened. How can this happen? And is there anything I can do about it?

  • Wrong. Comments can still be posted, even on entries where “Allow Comments” is unchecked in the admin interface, and where the entry says “Comments off” when you view the blog. That is the bug.

Did you file a bug report?

    Yes.

Are you sure these are not trackbacks? In 1.5 trackbacks can be moderated as well… from the announcement for 1.5: “Well first we streamlined the comment management tools so it’s really easy to deal with hundreds or thousands of comments, trackbacks, and pingbacks at once…”

In other words, if you don’t want anything to show up as awaiting moderation, make sure you turn off “Allow Comments” and “Allow Pings” for every post.

Also, I’m not sure if there’s any way to tell if they are trackbacks without looking in the DB…

Whoa, I didn’t know it was this bad. Anyway, do keep us updated on how the bug report goes. Seems serious!

Hope there is a fix for this soon!

Could anybody who is currently having this problem please head over to the bug and let me know? Specifically, I’d like to know if the entries getting comments for moderation have “Allow Comments” unchecked, or both “Allow Comments” and “Allow Pings” unchecked. I’ve been unable to duplicate this behavior, and it has mysteriously stopped for dmd. Thanks!
