There is – it’s called captcha – and it’s next to useless. Spammers can work around that very easily.
I use Bad Behavior:
http://www.ioerror.us/software/bad-behavior/
and Spam Karma 2:
http://unknowngenius.com/blog/wordpress/spam-karma/
What BB misses (which is little) SK2 gets.
Captcha also does not stop your server from being overloaded with spam runs – BB does.
I downloaded & installed Bad Behavior, but on the same day, I still got 2 new spam comments (Cash Loan spam). Is this suppose to happen? I thought it blocks all such spam.
You should install Spam Karma 2 in conjunctions with Bad Behaviour as PodZ suggests. I did, and I haven’t had a single spam message since that day.

I’ve been noticing a lot of commenting systems have the requirement that you type in a random bunch of letters/numbers from an image into a text box to be able to post (Blogger just implemented this) and it helps protect against spam.
Is there anyway to add such a feature to WordPress comments? Thanks!
