Social Media Options

I’m looking for a way to add social media icon options to my theme. I know that I can insert code into the header or sidebar etc, but the methods that I know of require me to include the social links in the code as well.

I want a way to add social media options to any of my own created themes, that also allows for the user of that theme to easily set it up with their own social links. I would also like the method to be flexible on where the icons are placed a I want to be able to change it according to theme the theme I’m creating.

Can anyone help me with this? Thanks in advanced.
