You will need to crop your images. I would recommend a size of 1900px by 500px. This will fit well and won’t cover up so much of screen.
You can try online tools like pixlr.com to resize the images.

There’s no direct option you can use CSS to hide the sections.
But, the paid version has a simple checkbox to enable/disable various sections on home page.
Add this to custom CSS section in theme customizer
.home-cta-area, .client-feedback-area { display: none; }
and the blocks will be hidden from front page.
