Sitemaps multisite (domain mapping) issues

Our Multisite networks use subdomains. The sitemaps keep reverting back to the subdomain for the site. We require authentication for the subdomain where admin logins occur so then the sitemap urls get blocked.

I can make a change, etc and this will fix the sitemap, but then few days later. Its reverted back to the subdomain. Given the shear number of sites we have on our networks this is a momentous task to keep fixing.

Any idea what might be causing this?
