Site down–Error establishing a database connection

    My site went down a couple of hours ago. I’ve been in touch with my host and submitted a ticket there for them to look at the problem. In the meantime I thought I’d see if anyone here could share some wisdom. The error message I get is “Error establishing a database connection.”

    Anyone have any experience with this, and particularly with a solution? At this point, at least, it doesn’t seem to be that the server is down.

    I’ve seen this when the config file isn’t setup correctly or when the MySQL server is down.

    If it was working fine and spontaneously combusted, I’d certainly look at the hosting first.

    At this point, at least, it doesn’t seem to be that the server is down.

    How do you know without contacting your host?

    It was spontaneous, all right. Thanks–I’m reassured that I’ve gone the right route, though of course I’d like it best if it were something I could fix myself!

    Moshu, I have contacted the host (se above), and from what the first rep could tell, it wasn’t the server. But a technician is looking at it next. (Which, hopefully, means now.)
