Sidebars & widgets problem

My theme is AtahualpaVersion: 3.7.24
I’m not sure at what point this has started happening. Items I knew were in my
sidebars weren’t. So I looked at my widgets and found many of them were under a heading called Inactive Sidebar, Inactive Widgets etc. When I try to add text widgets to the sidebar, first off, it only lets me put one text item under it and then it disappears. I deactivated all my plugins, thinking that one of them was causing problems but there is no change.
When I remove all my text widgets, the Recent Posts, My Other Sites and Meta return but if I try to add text widgets, they disappear.
Help!
