  • IE5 on Mac isn’t supported by Apple or Microsoft.
Apparently it is very very broken.
If they will not support it, I doubt anyone here can.

heh, yeah that is probably true. Still, people use it and if a problem can be fixed it definately should be. However, I’ve solved the problem above. Only to get very strange float behavior in all browsert but IE5 🙂

Mac IE has been discontinued for three years. And, the only thing that is similar between IE 5 on a Mac and IE 5 on Windows is the name. In fact, Mac IE 5 is much worse than Windows IE 5. I strongly suggest that you use a better browser, like Safari or Firefox, and do your best convince your Mac IE visitors to do the same.

Ehr, guys. Eveybody knows that IE on Mac is a terrible browser. But that is not the issue here. I personally don’t use it – but my stats tell me that others are. So. If I want these people to be able to see the site I have to code it so they can.

Basic CSS is faily well supported ad with a few hacks it can be pretty neat even in IE mac. My site isn’t terribly complicated so it’ll be ok.

Macmanx knows exactly what he is saying with this browser issue and although it may ‘look simple’ it probably is not. Unfortunately, this issue also requires that someone else is running IE5 on Mac and is prepared to help. That alone reduces the number of people who can help to a very small number indeed.

I use a PC. If someone posted here with a problem in Win IE5, I’d tell them to upgrade just like Macmanx.

So, you’re effectively saying that it’s ok if your site doesn’t show in IE5 on mac? I have to disagree. People are using it, for one reason or another. Would be great if eveybody could just upgrade and only use the latest browsers – but unfortunately that is not the case. Since I’m using this particualt site for self promotion I want to meake sure that whoever sees it will get the best possbile experience in terms of browser behaviour.

Like I said in my second post, the problem i described is solved and works fine in IE now. So it’s all cool again 🙂
