Is it possible to put the Searchbar into the left sidebar? Maybe as a widget?

yes, use shortcode [event_search_form] in your text widget and then install plugin wp plugins which allows you to use shortcode in text widget e.g. http://wordpress.org/plugins/use-shortcodes-in-sidebar-widgets/
