Safe to Update Theme?

    Is it safe for me to update my wordpress website theme? I’m using OceanWP and I see that an update is available, but I don’t want it to change the look of my website. I didn’t change anything in the CSS, but I definitely made a lot of changes within the normal customizer. Should I not update the theme if I don’t want to wreck my website?

    As long as you didn’t make any changes directly to the theme files themselves, it’s safe to update the theme.

    Making changes via the Customizer is safe, as it does not directly affect the theme files.

    If you do make changes to the theme files directly, it’s recommended that you do that via a Child Theme so that you can continue to safely update the Parent Theme: https://developer.wordpress.org/themes/advanced-topics/child-themes/
