I believe this is the caching feature. I know the update interval can be modified, but I can’t remember where I saw that post.
Disable cache:

I’d go with the first, since it will let you quickly test if caching is a cause. Note I looked into the problems you mention on two different 2.0 setups (both with caching enabled), and could not duplicate it.

If you start a search with the search form at top of this page and receive that lovely error, just search again by clicking the *big* Search button (not the little one). Since that hits everything under the wordpress.org domain, I still prefer using Google and passing it:
site:wordpress.org/support
Of course, these provide results that are somewhat dated, so for very recent stuff it’s hunt and peck (and the profile).
