• Thank you in advance for this review.

This week, I have debuted a new art and literature shopping website called Penelope Room (Peneloperoom.com).

It is a site that searches for great, affordable art and smart literature. I, along with future contributors, publish featured items on the home page and anyone can register to create their own favorites page (that I then format to fit the design).

I’m hoping for a review that is fairly harsh and in-depth. I can handle criticism well and need a hard eye on the site to help me make it function better. I’m looking particularly for ease of access, overall presentation and architecture (including colors, text, images, etc.), understanding of purpose and usage, navigation, and anything else you may feel needs to be adjusted or pointed out.

Again, thank you for your help!

I’ve worked on validation errors and the view in IE.

    Any comments at all?

I think you’ve already done a very good job. The colors are understated and suitable to your topic, the text is completely legible (finally someone understands). The images are well placed and go with what you are trying to say. The advertising does not overpower the site. Nor did I have any problems navigating it.

If I understand the purpose, then it is to showcase some great art and literature – and make fun of the not so great stuff.

I think that the writing style is the best part, though. I have an MA in art and I’m sick of this faffy-pretentious tone that everybody’s writing in and their idea that the art world revolves around the museum. Get real. This site has a more down to earth feel and I really like it.

    I’d read it.

Thank you VeronicaRose for all of your comments. I’m happy to hear it went over well. I particularly glad to hear the design makes sense and the text is legible (a huge pet peeve).

Thanks for commenting on the writing. I very much wanted a down to earth feel and I’m so glad it’s understood.

I can’t thank you enough for taking the time to review the site, I hope to see on you there!

A nice design, easy to read easy to navigate and, it works fine on Ie7 also, as well as FF.

It might look better if you used the rap div to add a graphic which would colour the sidebar down to the bottom of the page.

Its the sort of nice easy looking theme I’d use myself, though I’d add my own banner.

Any theme that can be read and navigated and passes the xhtml and css standards is good in my book.

    Good luck with your endeavours.

LiverpoolLad, thank you. What do you mean you’re own banner? I’ve altered the stock banner (from the Greenbay V2 by DL2 Media theme) to showcase a portion of an 1808 drawing “Lily of Light and Morning Star” by Philipp Otto Runge. I’m an art historian, so it reflects what is of importance to me. The original theme has been altered quite a bit. What would be your idea?

I thank you for your ideas; so far I like the cleanliness of the light overall color. Of course, who knows what later months bring.

I’m very happy it looked decent in IE7. Thank you so much for looking at it!

I used the wrong “your/you’re” and now I am SHAMED! My MA is saddened in its frame.

Ah, I meant: What do you mean when you say you would use YOUR own banner?

I can’t add much. I dearly love the simple, easy to read themes and this one is both. Very nice for what you are doing. A good idea, also, for the personal pages. Good luck in the future!

    Thank you very much, Samboll.

I’m also a sucker for a simple theme and I can’t help but appreciate how many there are to choose from with WordPress.
