Can you please explain the steps for the following scenario.

    I have a wp site @ http://www.abc.com
I take the backup through the xcloner and download both the backup and the tgz file.
At some time in future, my site goes down and the only possible option is to do a clean install
How do I restore the site on the domain http://www.abc.com using the backup and tgz files I have downloaded

In the previous version of Xcloner I would have uploaded the files to an empty directory (with db created) and just run the script through the browser. How to achieve something similar in the new version?

    Thanks a ton.

The new version has the restore interface built inside the plugin, so you would need to install XCloner within wordpress first, then start a restore.

    So one scenario would be:

    1. install a fresh copy of WordPress with XCloner
    2. proceed to the restore screen
    3. upload the restore script provided there in your site root along with the backup archive, then start the restore procedure.

Otherwise, you can simply one of the posted FAQ’s here https://wordpress.org/plugins/xcloner-backup-and-restore/faq/ regarding manual restore

Let me know if you need further info!

    Hi Liuta Ovidiu,

Ive used tis plugin for many years. And now I see something’s changed.
I also want to put a backup on anorher url. So I followed your instructions:
    Did a clean WordPress install.
Coppied to the root (httpdocs) Vendor folder, vendor.phar, xcloner_restore.php and also de backup.tar

Can you explain “start the restore procedure.”
I go to Restore Script Upload. Downloaded here the files and set them in the root. So I solved the error “AUTH_KEY missing or invalid!”
Changed the settings WordPress-adres (URL) & Siteadres (URL) with www. But it makes no difference.
The path: http://www.mydomein.nl/xcloner_restore.php check, but nothing happens.

    Can jou assist?

Please check here https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=V9iWpPyG1EE the screencast i’ve made on how to transfer a site to localhost, the process would be the same to any other location.

    So basically,

    1. upload the restore script to the new host
    2. from the original host add your restore url in the input field and validate, the change here is that you are not accessing the restore script directly anymore, you do it from the original site XCloner install
    3. on next step you can automatically transfer the backup to the new host or manually upload as you’ve done already, so you can skip next
    4. select the backup archive from the dropdown box and restore the files
    5. once done, go to the next step which is the mysql restore, input the restore mysql details and start the process, here you can also replace the old url with the new one
    6. next step if finished which includes some other options

Please post further if you need further help…

With the release of 4.0.3 version, i have added the option to restore backups locally without the need to download the restore script, so if you are to restore a backup on a new site, you could simply install a blank copy of WordPress with XCloner, upload the backup in the Backup Store Path, and then follow proceed to the Restore Backup screen and follow the localhost restore procedure

I will mark this as resolved for now, if you do have further issues, please open a new post.
