Recently lost my hosting and don’t know if I want to renew immediately but wondering if there is a place where I can go and gather my content so that I don’t lose pictures, etc.

get the plugin “backupwordpress”. Make a backup, download it, and put it in a safe place. https://wordpress.org/plugins/backupwordpress/

If you no longer have a live site, then that’s really not an option. Can you still get into your hosting to download files and export the database?
