• I am installing a new wp setup and want to change the default index.php to home.php
The reason is that i already have an existing setup using customized PHP files (not WordPress, just regular php files) which also uses a index.php file.
I want to install and configure WordPress parallel to the existing website until i can finally go live. I DO NOT want to install the wp files in a separate folder.

Why? WordPress will not function without that index.php in its root folder.

I already have a live working site using php pages that has a index.php
I want the existing site to continue working till I shift completely to WordPress. Also there are some constrains while using some themes and plugins when the WP site is installed in a separate folder.
